said a nuclear smuggler unwittingly trying to sell his radioactive stuff to an undercover cop


This is a scary store: Smugglers in Moldova were trying to sell nuclear material – enough to make a Dirty Bomb (i.e. a radiation bomb) – to someone they thought was connected to the Middle East. Luckily it was a sting operation, and the man they were selling the radioactive cesium to was a cop. This is the fourth time in the last couple of years, people have been busted trying to sell such things. The radioactive material is usually from the old USSR – after the fall of the Soviet Union, many of the nuclear weapons sites were left unattended or stripped of their valuables and atomic leftovers. During the Iraq War you must have heard of IEDs – improvised explosive devices, that is bombs made from materials around the house. Now, officials are worried about IND – improvised nuclear devices. 6,000 Federal Inmates Being Let Out
Changes in drug laws will now allow 6,000 inmates out of correctional institutions (mostly half-way houses), or at least, out of their house arrest. The crimes for which they were incarcerated are now no longer illegal, or the punishments for such crimes have been greatly reduced. This is just the first wave of releases, there are expected to be 40,000 more. Read mas
