In Israel, there is terror as Palestinians are engaging in shooting and stabbing attacks. In response, the Israeli military have moved into the country’s major cities to assist the police forces there. The Palestinians in East Jerusalem in Israel, around 800,000 of them, feel that they are oppressed and discriminated against. The Israeli military is closing off streets, blocking access out of East Jerusalem. Opponents say this is illegal. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said Israel is using excessive force. Other say that Israel’s new construction work is linked to the knife attacks. Read Mas

Allegations against Border Patrol of abuse with impunity 

The American Civil Liberties Union, a nonprofit advocacy group, obtained documents alleging abuse of power by Border Patrol along highway checkpoints.  Of the 142 complaints that the ACLU has reviewed, Border Patrol only took disciplinary measures once, when the son of a retired officer was pulled over without cause. The officer was suspended for one day. Other allegations include badgering a father about whether the two children in the car were really his, threatening without provocation to shoot someone in the face, and threatening to use a stun gun on a passenger who asked why the car was being searched.  The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Border Patrol, released the documents after the ACLU successfully sued them. Clinton does well in debate
After a few rough months, where Clinton’s polling numbers took a beating because of revelations about her emails, Clinton won back some momentum during the first democratic debate. Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s strongest opponent, didn’t want to bother raising the email issue. He was also passive about Clinton’s ties to Wall St. and his own past opposition to immigration reform and gun control. Clinton, as expected, took a populist stance, appealing to the elderly, the poor, and the female demographic. Banks getting ready for another round of defaults
The plummeting cost of oil means that energy companies are having trouble with their debts.  Over the past decade, American oil companies have produced a lot more oil and natural gas. That production was fueled with capital borrowed from Wall St. If the banks stop “issuing credit” (that just means loaning money) to the oil companies, the energy industry would collapse. Analysts say this won’t be like the subprime crisis. In this case there isn’t the problem of wrong credit ratings, reckless credit default swaps (bets against loan-securities) and systemic fraud. Read Mas
